My practice is an extension of my life; my life is an extension of my practice.
I process my life through my artistic practice, investigating the various places, phases and relationships I have experienced and how they have come together to inform my identity and choices. I seek to make the narrative structure in which we view our lives tangible and examinable. Through a continued practice of installation, media and performance works, I aim to highlight the changeability of identity and life itself - that who we are and how we define ourselves is in constant flux, composed of a million tiny parts which come together to explain where we have been and where we may be headed.
I understand art making as a means of communication which can reach beyond the communicative ability of writing and speaking. Creating immersive environments and performances is a way of recreating a moment or feeling which is not easily shared, something which previously existed only in my memory and mind. In sharing these often vulnerable and extremely personal details, I seek the ability to understand them better for myself and to communicate to others the connections that we all share - that there is not a single feeling or experience which only one individual experiences, that we are never truly alone. I find strength in this process, in connecting with others through topics we may have otherwise never discussed due to their difficulty, and in giving myself space outside my brain to understand my own life and choices.
