Sierra Diamond

 Sarah mit H is a video and performance work based on my time working as an in-home aide for the elderly, injured and disabled during the Corona pandemic. Though I did not intend originally to make a work out of my time in this position, the stories and experiences I had with the large variety of people and families I worked with were extremely compelling, though often heartbreaking. As an outsider to their lives, strangers opened themselves up to me in a way that wouldn’t have been possible in any other situation. As a foreigner relatively new to Germany, this time in my life taught me fundamental communication skills and gave me a unique view into how death, illness and sadness are experienced by various individuals within a cultural framework that I was not familiar with.
